I'm really trying to stay focused on the good news: Senator Al Franken.
I've managed to put a black-out over almost all the MJ coverage.

But Mark Sanford just keeps rearing his brainless little head.

As Cron commented on an earlier post, "At last - the rational explanation for the good Governor's dalliance: that was no mistress, it was my "soul mate!" So I guess that will keep him in the running for the 2012 presidential primary.
And of course it takes a big man to say he will try to fall back in love with his wife. I have to assume that comment is making her feel giddy, like they are 16 years old and courting again." And I replied . . .

Wearying of Obama bashing

barbara is experiencing cognitive dissonance, writ large.

Predictably, Republicans are sniping every hour of every day, boring new holes in Barack Obama’s body and body of work.

Less predictable, and even more disturbing, is the passel of progressives who are doing the same thing. Bloggers and commenters, mostly. A few columnists and commentators. And some just plain folks.

My afore-mentioned dissonance is rooted in my own growing concern about Obama’s decisions and actions (OMG, my third-choice candidate is not perfect), even as I am becoming increasingly snarly about the pitchfork attitude and tone of some liberals. If one were to read a compilation of derogatory comments about PBO and those with whom he has surrounded himself, I say you’d have a tough time IDing the source by party.

The smuggery is getting on my nerves. More.

You know that thing about truth being stranger than fiction? It’s true. Gallup polled Republicans on their current thinking about who should be their banner-carrier in 2012:

First pick: Mitt (“I hate to say I told you so, but...”) Romney, with 26%.

Close behind him: Sarah (“I’m not a quitter; I quit!”) Palin with 21%. (Important to note that this poll was conducted after her wildly weird resignation.)

Then Mike (“Affable Wingnut”) Huckabee (19%), Newt (“Family Values, Multiple Families”) Gingrich (14%), and far down the pecking order, Minnesota’s own Tim (“Totally Desperate for National Attention”) Pawlenty (3%), and Haley (“Who’s She?”) Barbour (2%). More cogent commentary.

Who steals my laundry steals trash

It's Monday. In this household, that means time to do laundry. Unless laundry-washing happens on another day. Which it often does. It is the way of things. But I digress.

From time to time, folks send me photos, poems or essays or, in this case, snippets about laundry, clotheslines, etc. Don't remember where this came from, so I can only give credit to the author, whose work was forwarded to me.

I can only hope that he and his laundry basket have been happily reunited by now.

Last night, between 6 and 7:15, EST, someone has stolen my laundry basket from the “Speed Queen” on Watson Boulevard. Not the laundry; just the basket! Now, it wasn’t one of those pimped out numbers with gold-plated handles and a built-in CD-player. That I could understand. It was a plastic, orange, five-dollar item from Wal-Mart, tooled with pride in the Democratic Republic of Congo. More, you betcha.

Time to undo the blue

Progressives? We have work to do. Earlier today, 57 principled progressives in the U.S. House of Representatives took a stand against obstructionist Republicans and Blue Dogs, who generally speaking are not Democrats. The 57 signed a letter saying they will not vote for the Blue Dogs' compromise legislation.
